Advancing Health Through Translational Pharmacology
The lecture follows one connected journey: understanding biological mechanisms, validating evidence, building capacity, translating knowledge, strengthening institutions and inspiring the future.
A life shaped by a question
Prof. Kwame B.N. Banga is a pharmacologist whose career connects mitochondrial science, experimental pharmacology, medicinal plants and the responsible development of traditional and alternative medicine. Trained from Abidjan to Strasbourg, he has built an academic journey around a consistent purpose: turning careful scientific inquiry into practical benefit for African health.
Research
His work moves from the mechanisms that sustain cellular energy to the evidence needed for safe and effective health innovation.
How muscle and cardiac mitochondria produce, regulate and adapt energy supply in health and disease.
Biological stress, antioxidant responses and the pharmacological factors that shape tissue function.
Efficacy, safety and quality—the evidence needed to translate traditional knowledge responsibly.
Leadership in action
As Director of the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine at UHAS, Prof. Banga brings researchers, health professionals, regulators and traditional medicine practitioners into a shared evidence-driven ecosystem.
Education, research, product development, advocacy and service delivery for responsible TCAM integration.
Natural-product analysis and an expanding platform for quality assurance, research and development.
Structured professional development connecting traditional practice with clinical, scientific and regulatory standards.
Selected journey
Biochemistry, pharmacology and doctoral research in mitochondrial function.
Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Nangui-Abrogoua University, Côte d’Ivoire.
Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Head of Department and Acting Dean at the University of Ghana.
